I'm not sure if it is just me. I don't feel a tinge of anger when Teri Hatcher's character in Desperate Housewives "disparaged" the Philippine medical schools by saying she wants to double check her doctor's diplomas and make sure those are not just from "some Philippine medical school." 2 things:
1. It's fiction. Why fuss when the lines were fictional and spoken by a fictional character who has her own sets of fictional thoughts and fictional beliefs.
2. For whatever it's worth, it's actually a wakeup call for the government to review quality of our medical schools. Teri Hatcher's character has this negative impression on Philippine medical schools. Was it factual? May be not. But that's her impression. And she is entitled to it. The bigger question is, what led her to have this impression? Perhaps she heard about the nursing board leakage and connected the dots. It's one thing to be nationalistic, it's another to be realistic and address our problems instead of being in denial.
Now for those people in the government riding on this issue but don't even know what they are talking about, pl do us a favor and keep you mouth shut.
